TomTom Map Share Moves to iPhone

Another good news for those lost trekkers who own an iPhone: navigation solutions provider TomTom announced last week it had made the TomTom Map Share service a part of the TomTom app for Apple's star phone.

TomTom Map Share comes with a huge, up-to-date database of maps. It allows iPhone owners to edit street names, set driving directions and block and unblock streets directly on their maps, and then share the changes with other TomTom users.

The system can receive map updates with data ranging from turn restrictions, speed limit changes to crossing changes. The updating can be done by the owner automatically or on-demand. Real-time traffic updates and incident report information are also relayed to the owner of the iPhone.

“We are pleased to bring TomTom’s exclusive Map Share technology already enjoyed by millions of TomTom GPS users everyday to our iPhone App,” said Tom Murray, senior vice president of market development for TomTom.

“With the addition of Map Share, TomTom App users will get free, verified updates via Map Share anytime on top of the most accurate map available on-board.”

The app can be downloaded from the following link. The app has been developed for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch.

TomTom is one of the largest navigation solutions providers currently on the market. They are, at the same time, one of the most fun to be around, especially since they've decided to hand over the GPS voices to famous characters like Homer Simpson, Master Yoda, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck and Sylvester.
