TomTom Voice of UK Winner Announced

Following TomTom’s nationwide competition, the new UK voice of TomTom sat nav is Alan Medroft from South Gloucestershire, company announced today. He managed to win the contest after recording a 30 second video of himself telling a story about traffic in a campaign fronted by the actor Brian Blessed.

Meddroft, a 34 year old Sales & Marketing Executive from Stoke Gifford, will join celebrities such as John Cleese, Billy Connolly, Homer Simpson and Darth Vader from Star Wars, as TomTom’s voice.

He will record the 52 commands in a studio next week, and it will be available to download in the New Year, as a free alternative to the standard computer voice.

“We were looking for someone to be as creative as possible for the new Voice of TomTom in the UK.  Alan was chosen from hundreds of entries as our choice to help drivers across the country avoid the bottlenecks and queues,"
said Lyndal Newman from TomTom.

Alan was declared the 'Voice of UK' winner after entering a national competition on Facebook and Twitter.  He joins the Scottish, Welsh and English winners who entered separate radio competitions across Scotland, Wales and England.

"I recorded the my voice one night when it was dark and had to hope against hope that the snow in Bristol wouldn't melt before the next day so I could do the little film to go with it. It was a lot of fun to make and I didn't dare to dream that I might win. Thank you to TomTom. I've used their SatNav for years and it's got me where I need to go. I have a dreadful sense of direction (unlike my father who can remember the route he took 30 years ago and the alternative routes) and would be completely lost without my TomTom," Medroft said.

The British is also the proud winner of a new, top of the line Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet with built in TomTom sat nav. His winning video can be seen by accessing this link.
