Mercedes-AMG has been tasked with the development of the new generation SL, which will share many components with the upcoming two-door GT lineup. It is expected to break cover before the end of the year, or in early 2022, but if you cannot wait that long, then there are numerous examples of the current iteration on the used car market that deserve your attention.
Depending on the budget, one could land a barely-driven SL 65 AMG for around €200,000, or an SL 400 for about four times less. Those into extreme stuff, however, should check out this Copart listing, which advertises a burnt pile of rubble that used to be a 2017 Mercedes-AMG SL 63.
The ad claims that it has 0 miles on the odo, and gives an unrealistic estimated retail value of $88,500. The wreck is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is part of an upcoming lot that will be auctioned off online.
Needless to say that the AMG roadster is beyond salvageable. The fire destroyed literally everything, and if it wasn’t for the easily-recognizable rear three-quarter design, then it would have been almost impossible to tell what ride this was just by looking at the pics. So, the only realistic usage that we could think of is perhaps art-related, though you will need a lot of imagination for that too.
When it left the factory floor, it was finished in white and had a twin turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine under that long hood, capable of pumping out 577 HP (585 PS / 430 kW), at 5,500 rpm, and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque, at 2,250-3,750 rpm. Mercedes-AMG claimed that the nought to 62 mph (0-100 kph) is dealt with in 4.1 seconds, and flat out, it could do 155 mph (250 kph).
U.S. pricing used to start at more than $150,000, while in Germany, the 2017 SL 63 retailed for over €160,000.
