When BMW decided to make a move for MINI, they also got Rolls-Royce and Rover somehow involved in the mix and, at first, they wanted to keep the Oxford plant on making Rovers only whilst another factory was supposed to start making MINIs.
Things didn’t go as planned and Rover was ultimately sold to the highest bidder, leaving BMW with MINI and Rolls-Royce. However, the second plant we were talking about had already started working on the R50 model and a couple of prototypes had already been built.
One of those early prototypes is now for sale on eBay, the seller asking for GBP1,000 or the best offer. Of course, it comes without an engine or wheels or suspension parts. Actually it’s basically just the chassis, in poor condition but it’s still worth a look for a possible future project. Who knows, maybe you can stuff an M3 engine in there and amaze everyone with your new ride.
