Buick Verano Will Get Hybrid Version, Major Refresh in 2015

People are just getting to know the characteristics of the new Buick Verano, which was revealed at this year’s Detroit Auto Show and pack GM’s usual 2.4-liter 177 hp engine mated to six-speed automatic box. The 2.0-liter turbo also brings plenty of refinement and economy, but the automaker also has its eyes fixed on the future.
A very interesting piece of documentation has been posted by Automotive News, showing the usual parts supplyers and bringing a vision of what’s to come. According to the list, there’s something big coming in 2015, which apparently also disrupts the production cycle of the car, since the only 10,000 are expected to be produced in Orion Township, Michiban.

Apparently, the Verano will be an the market for almost nine years, which is a huge, but it will also get a major refresh in April 2015.

That’s when the current 2.4-liter normally aspirated unit built in Tennessee will be removed from production. Filling the gap will be a new 2.5-liter gasoline engine built in Tonawanda, New York.

The same NY plant will also mate electric motors to the 2.5L to create the first Buick Regal Hybrid.

We can’t say for sure right now if this is a full hybrid or just another eAssist system that shuts the engine when you come to a full stop. However, four years from now automakers will face much more strict economy standards, so this might be a full hybrid.
