Buick Verano to Get New 250 Horsepower Engine

Ever since it was presented before the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Buick Verano was offered with a single Ecotec 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 177 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. At that time however, parent company General Motors revealed that a second engine option will be launched later in 2011, but hasn't provided too many details on it.

A leaked brochure revealed by GM Inside News suggests that the future engine will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder configuration that develops no less than 250 horsepower.

A refined chassis will be offered as well, which will bring performance figures to new levels. The car will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, as compared to the current Verano that needs around 8 seconds to do the same.

An interesting fact is that Buick will most likely bring the same engine on the Regal as well, which means the current Regal GS, developing 255 hp, will be tweaked to develop more power. Buick is yet to comment on the subject so, if the reports are indeed true, the modifications should reach the mass market by 2012.

The smallest Buick made by General Motors will continue to be offered with a total of 10 standard airbags, as well as a push-button engine start, dual-zone climate control with standard air conditioning (automatic climate control is also available), heated steering wheel, electronic parking brake, heated leather seats, power windows, steering wheel-mounted radio controls and uplevel front and rear reading lamps.
