Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) is recalling their Ski-Doo and Can-Am heated gloves and Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries due to fire hazard, a CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) bulletin informs.
Around 450 units are expected to be brought back to BRP dealers in the US, while about 1,200 are recalled in Canada. According to the same source, it’s the rechargeable batteries which can overheat when charging and pose a fire hazard. BRP received reports of two cases in Canada and one in United States, the overheated batteries caused minor property damage but no injuries.

Customers are advised to stop using these heated gloves immediately, disconnect all battery packs from the electrical connectors, and remove the batteries. The battery packs are not to be recharged any more. Users should contact their nearest authorized BRP dealer and arrange for returning the battery packs for a full refund. BRP also mentions that customers can keep the gloves, free of charge.

The dealers will offer full refunds for the gloves and additional battery packs, worth of $199.99 and $49.99 (€145 and €36), respectively. These gloves have been manufactured in China and sold though BRP’s dealer network and online shop from August 2013 through February 2014.

In order to help customers identify the hazardous products, here’s a more detailed description of the items:
“The gloves are only available in black and are sold with two lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and a charger. The gloves have either “ski-doo” or “can-am” on the pointer finger and on the wrist band of each glove. Both gloves come in size XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL. The battery pack is located on the zipped pouch on the wrist of each glove.

Each battery is wrapped in white plastic with black writing which includes the warning information. The recalled product codes can be found on the label sewn inside of the gloves. Recalled product codes are 446247 for the Can-Am heated gloves, 446248 for the Ski-Doo heated gloves and 4880580001 for the two Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that are sold separately.”
