Briatore: Alonso Has 80 Percent Chances of Winning Title

Flavio Briatore seems pretty convinced that only a disaster would prevent his former protege Fernando Alonso from bagging his 3rd world title this season. The Spaniard jumped to the top of the overall classification following his Korean Grand Prix win and is now 11 points clear of Red Bull's Mark Webber with two races to go.

According to the former Renault boss, only two drivers remain in the running for the 2010 world title, Alonso and Red Bull's Mark Webber. And, unless the Austrian team changes its strategy and switches to a No 1 driver status for the Australian racer in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, Alonso can be considered 80 percent world champion.

Alonso will lose the world championship only with a disaster. For Vettel it's impossible, Hamilton the same. The only two who can win are Alonso and Webber,” said Briatore in a recent interview with Italian television Sky Sport 24.

And for Alonso I see the chances at 80 per cent, except if Red Bull changes their strategy. For Alonso he has always driven the same way, only the Ferrari has become better and more reliable,” added the former boss of Alonso at Renault.

Curiously enough, Briatore would be happy to see either of the two drivers clinch the world title. While the 2-time world champion from Ferrari is widely considered like a son to Briatore within the F1 paddock, the Italian boss is also the manager of Red Bull's Webber. So it would be a win-win situation for him.

He also spoked critically of Red Bull's strategy to give both drivers equal chances for the world title, saying that they “have the best car but it seems like they're trying to lose the championship. And they're getting there.
