Brawn Warns Schumacher Is Getting Better by the Race

Although Michael Schumacher is yet to challenge for a win, podium or pole position after 3 races spent in the Mercedes W01 cockpit – which is totally understandable, we might add – the Merc officials are very confident that the 7-time world champion will be getting up to speed by the half of the season.

Prior to the Chinese Grand Prix, team boss Ross Brawn issued a call for patience on Schumacher’s performances, as he reckoned his team carries a lot of blame for not handing the German a competitive car from the get-go. Although happy with the W01’s reliability, Brawn insisted the car is still trailing the Red Bulls, Ferraris and McLarens in the championship.

We have to be realistic and acknowledge that we are not quick enough to compete right at the front at the moment. This is obviously not a situation that we are happy with and we are working as hard as possible to close the gap,” said Brawn.

Additionally, he insisted that Schumacher is going through a re-adaptation process in the series and his development so far has been more than impressive, considering the circumstances in Australia and Malaysia.

Michael is getting more up to speed with every race although circumstances beyond his control limited his race performance in Melbourne and Sepang. We hope to continue these signs of improvement in China and it would be particularly good for Michael to be able to have a clean race and show the progress that he has made since the start of the season,” added Brawn.
