When the facelift for the W212 E-Class was launched, it was heralded as the most expensive mid-life refreshes for a car in the history of mid-life refreshes for cars.
The close to one billion Euros investments made by Daimler AG just to upgrade a car that will sell for only around three more years was probably the most discussed related subject at the time. The second most talked about subject was about the aesthetic differences between the pre-facelift W212 E-Class and the refreshed one.

Probably the least talked about topic was about the technical upgrades that the new model received. Among these upgrades, Mercedes-Benz quietly introduced the 9 G-Tronic and a new twin-turbo V6 engine.

Currently sold alongside the 3.5-liter V6 in some markets, the new three-liter V6 has an output of 333 hp and 480 Nm (354 lp/ft). Being some of the most hardcore horsepower and torque fans in the world, Brabus engineers decided that the new engine can offer a bit more ponies with the help of some ECU tweaking.

The result of that thinking is a Brabus plug-an-play ECU upgrade called the PowerXtra CGI B40, which increases the horsepower numbers by 50 and the torque by 70 Nm (51.6 ft/lb). The 383 hp and 550 Nm (405.7 ft/lb) result also brings a 275 km/h (171 mph) top speed. Not bad for a ten minute job in any authorized service.
