Brabus Plays with the Mercedes BlueEFFICIENCY CGI Engines

Mercedes has developed the BlueEFFICIENCY range in order to offer customers an eco motoring alternative. However, it seems like this approach does not suit all tastes, especially when it comes to power junkies like the Brabus tuner.

The German tuning company has developed a performance kit for the German automaker’s CGI (gasoline direct injection) BlueEFFICIENCY line-up. Dubbed the ECO PowerXtra CGI, this is a processor-controlled auxiliary plug & play unit that can be installed in less than 60 minutes by any Mercedes-Benz dealer and benefits from Brabus’ three years/100.000 km tuning warranty.

For the four-cylinder engines in the C200 and E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY, the control unit brings an additional 26 hp and 30 Nm of torque. When assisting the C250 and E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY models, it brings the power and torque up from 204 hp & 310 Nm to 230 hp and 350 Nm. The top of the range CGI BlueEFFICIENCY engine, the 3.5 liter V6 unit installed on the C 350, CLS 350 and E 350, delivers an extra 18 hp with the help of the unit. Brabus says that if the unit is used in conjunction with its Vmax electronic speed limiter killer, the models equipped with this engine will see their top speed grow form 250 km/h to 267 km/h.

As we are speaking about efficiency, we would’ve liked to know the impact of the ECO PowerXtra CGI on the aforementioned engine’s fuel consumption, but Brabus did not release any related data. The tuner only said that the new product offers “favourable fuel economy thanks to the engines' improved pulling power.”
