As you probably have heard, BMW introduced a new app for its i sub brand vehicles that allows you to control them from a distance. The BMW i Remote App was also modified to be used with Samsung’s Gear S smartwatch, bringing a lot of features to your wrist. The effort BMW put into creating it has been recognized by the famous Consumer Electronics Show.
Even though it’s supposed to open its gates in Las Vegas, next year, between January 6 and 9, the show usually holds a ceremony at New York in November, where it offers awards for 20 product categories. This year, in the Software and Mobile Apps category, the BMW i Remote App for Samsung’s Gear was honored.
With over 3,500 exhibitors, CES is one of the biggest such venues for consumer electronics in the world. The awards are being handed out based on the decision of a jury made up of industrial designers, engineers and press representatives.
The criteria they used included functionality, aesthetic appeal, user-friendliness and the innovative edge, placing BMW’s ‘creation’ amongst the front-runners in mobile apps.
In this particular case, you can access all of the features included in the full remote app such as checking the electric range available, the battery charge level and even the estimated charge time remaining.
You can also check out the vehicle’s status (for example if the doors are locked or the windows closed), turn the AC on or off to pre-heat or cool down your car and so on.
