The BMW X7 is definitely too big for UK roads and parking spots. But people have been saying that about the Range Rover for many years. So how does the Bavarian newcomer compare to the British icon?
You'd imagine somebody at BMW had a picture of a Range Rover on his deck for several years before saying "hang on, we can do that better." And they did... in some areas. This Carwow review seems to be first to look at the two in comparison, though we have shown you how the X7 stacks up to its smaller X5 sister SUV.

Anyway, two things are crucial for this type of car - luxury feel and design, maybe the features too. In the looks department, the BMW X7 is the sore thumb of the segment, people argue, due to its oversized grille. However, we find that it's proportional to the whole thing, and those laser headlights actually look better than those on the X5.

Still, we couldn't help noticing how the complex curves look like dents in this black paint. As for the Range Rover, it's timeless to the point of being dated. The company has already begun testing the next generation. Still, it's significantly more expensive than the X7, which could help the case of the Bavarian newcomer.

The interior is as subjective as the quality of modern art. Some have a soft spot for the Range Rover leather that will never go away, though BMW undoubtedly has an advantage in the infotainment department. and you can tell they though everything at the X7, including a sunroof specifically for third-row passengers. Space is also available in abundance in this dedicated 3-row model.

However, the Range Rover feels wider and more suited for three abreast. When it comes to handling, BMW is king, offering rear-wheel-steering as a way to make the X7 more nimble. The regal Range Rover is best enjoyed at a slower pace and compensates with off-road competence.
