BMW X3 Games Coming Next Year

German manufacturer BMW is increasing its involvement in the world of sports by announcing the start of a series of challenges they like to call the X3 Games. The events will take place starting next year and will involve sixty teams of three members each.

The games will test the participants skills in several areas, including sailing, mountain biking, skiing, golf, running and driving. The games will start on April 27 and will go until May 11 in Geneva.

“The BMW X3 Games are aimed at amateur sportsmen and women from all age groups,” said Ralf Hussmann, head of BMW Sports Marketing and Brand Cooperation. “Each competitor can bring their own personal strengths to this multi-sport event, thus working with team-mates to achieve the big goal.”

The first order of business on the agenda is a sailing regatta on Lake Geneva using Beneteaus First Class 7.5 yachts. It will be followed by the BMW Cross Country Mountain Bikes, a ski competition in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, a golf competition in Gross Stableford format and a 14 km run.

BMW is accepting entries for the games at the following link. Pretty much all those interested must submit their applications by February 28, 2011. As an incentive, BMW announced that each member of the winning team will receive an X3 as a prize.

“However, the BMW X3 Games are about more than three spectacular main prizes,” adds Hussmann. “Teams from 18 European countries will assemble in Geneva, where they will not only compete against each other in an exclusive environment, but will also line up together. We can look forward to thrilling duels in a unique atmosphere.”
