2011 BMW X3 M Sport Package Breaks Cover

After earlier today the full details and quite an extensive photo gallery showing the 2011 BMW X3 were released by the German manufacturer, the more sport oriented M package for the model was previewed by BimmerToday.

As with all M Sport packages, the one for the X3 will boast mainly visual enhancements, to be featured both at the exterior and at the interior. The goal: increase the aggressiveness of the X3.

At the exterior, the package includes Carbon Black metallic paint finish and 19-inch M light-weight alloy wheel rims. The side skirts, wheel arches and front and rear aprons are in body color.

On the inside, the M package features M multifunction leather steering wheel with variable sports steering, sports seats in Pearlpoint cloth-leather upholstery.

Performance-wise, the X3 in M Sport package receives short throw gear selection lever (gearshift paddles paddles for BMW xDrive35i with standard eight-speed automatic) and sports suspension tuning with
stiffer dampers.

The X3 will show its face for the first time in September, at the Paris Auto Show.

For Europe, the car will be launched with two engines (X3 xDrive2.0d and X3 xDrive35i). In North America, BMW will make available the X3 xDrive35i and the X3 xDrive28i.

All engines come paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox (for the petrol units), while the diesel will offer the choice of a six-speed manual. Both transmissions work with a braking energy recuperation system and offer a stop-start function.

Sales of the model will begin later this year in the US and in January 2011 in Europe.
