BMW to Host Teen Driving School

The American division of German manufacturer BMW announced today that its president, Jim O'Donnell, will be the host of a special Teen Driving School on September 7, 2010 at US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The event hosted by O'Donnell is part of the kick off ceremony for the 2010 BMW Golf Championship, an event which will see 70 of the best top professional golfers competing in the third leg of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

In addition to hosting the Teen Driving School, the German manufacturer has also partnered with Group 1 Automotive, a MINI dealer which will sponsor the fundraiser event for the Evans Scholars Foundation.

The Teen Driving School will also be attended by a PGA TOUR player, who will be the special guest of the launch of BMW's "DRIVE IT HOME -- DON'T TXT & DRIVE" campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of texting and driving.

The proceeds coming from the BMW Championship and the Teen Driving School will be donated to the Evans Scholars Foundation.

The BMW event to be held in September has been shadowed by the death of the carmaker's 47-year old vice president of marketing this weekend, as a result of a tractor accident.

According to the sheriff’s department in Greene County, the executive, Jack Pitney, had been working on his tractor and tried to pull a tree stump from the ground. The tractor couldn't handle the task and it flipped with the BMW executive trapped inside. Pitney was pronounced dead at the scene.
