The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) publishes annual reports around this time of year, evaluating worldwide companies rating which one is the most innovative. Usually, the top 10 are companies that are involved in IT and high-tech markets but this year 3 auto industry giants broke new ground.
Places 5, 8 and 9 were occupied by Toyota, Ford and BMW, all of them recording impressive results and going up 6, 4 and respectively 5 places compared to last year's results.

The top 4 positions were still occupied by companies like Apple, Samsung, Google and Microsoft but car manufacturers are on the rise. For example, Volkswagen rose 31 places whilst General Motors rose 16, proving that the landscape is changing.

Of course, a big plus for BMW was the development of the 'BMW i' sub-brand. Creating the i3 and i8 forced the Bavarian company to invest heavily in research and development and brought forward CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced polymer) a material that will be the key towards sustainable transportation.

In the end, the results reflect the efforts of the auto industry to keep up with the times and offer their customers the best possible performance whilst also keeping the environment clean for the next generations.
