BMW is planning to use its plants above their normal capacity for the current year, as Automotive News Europe writes. The company’s production chief, Frank-Peter Arndt told the aforementioned source that BMW will increase use to over 110 percent, measured according to the Harbour Reports, an industry standard that defines 100 percent capacity as two shifts that follow a five out of seven days work schedule.
However, the executive admitted that the percentage capacity alone is not enough to allow a company to move forward, explaining that what’s really important is to have the “right capacity at the right time in the right place.”
But don’t think that BMW is being too optimistic - the carmaker is ready to face a market decline of up to 30 percent, if this is necessary.
