BMW’s ActiveHybrid 5 combines a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder with an electric drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor produces an extra 55 horsepower, but the maximum output of whole powertrain is 340 hp.
The Bavarians say that the hybridized 5-Series will be available in Germany from the base price of €62,900. This makes it a full €12,200 more expensive than the 535i, with which it shares the 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six.
The hybrid drivetrain “limits average fuel consumption to between 6.4 and 7.0 litres per 100 kilometers (44 – 40 mpg)”. We can also tell you the ActiveHybrid 5 emits 149 grams of CO2 per kilometer. What’s more, it can be driven in electric-only mode up to a speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).
In case you were were wondering about the performance side of things, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
