Back in March we prophesied that the drifting world record will not only be broken but crushed by a BMW instructor, at the BMW Performance Centre in South Carolina this month.
Well, of course, we were right. Johan Schwartz, onboard of a BMW F10 M5 with a DCT gearbox, managed to record the longest continuous drift in the world, measuring a staggering 51.278 miles (82.04 km) or 322.4 laps of the skid pad on which it was done.
At first, the surface was wet, in order to help the wheels spin but towards the end, our champion was covered in a cloud of smoke and bits and pieces from the rear tires that did an amazing job holding together for the whole endeavor.
Not only did Johan break the World Record by more than 47 miles (76 km), but this attempt was also a charity event for the BMW Pro-Am organization.
