At next week’s Geneva Motor Show, BMW will be showing this, the Concept M135i, a sporty version of the recently launched 1-Series, this time coming as a three-door model with a chassis setup created by the gurus of M-division. Autoblog recently wrote that even though BMW has not announced it yet, the M135i will go into production.
Now, we thought that when the Bavarians said the car was “BMW’s concept study of a further model from this new product category will be showcased on the media days,” that they meant it was a concept study for a new model. However, we don’t really mind further confirmation that it’s coming.
Autoblog also says that the M135i will come with either rear-wheel drive or xDrive. We’ll agree to disagree with this one until we get official world from BMW or a clearer report. Yes, M-division is focusing a bit on offering xDrive, and this would allow it to compete against the Golf R or Audi S3. But, is the 1-Series chassis really big enough to take all-wheel drive, and why is BMW saying the 300 hp car is a “rear-wheel drive concept still unique in this vehicle class, ensures unsurpassed driving pleasure so typical of a BMW.”
In addition, the design part of the press release says the powerful flared wheel arches “body directs the eye to the rear wheels, where the power of the six-cylinder power plant is transformed into driving dynamics in typical BMW manner.”
autoevolution will be attending the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
