The 6-Series is like their expression of pure style. If you’ve got a big V8 and can do 155 mph (250 km/h), you’re in the same league as the Jaguar XK and Mercedes SL owner. However, it’s this car that you actually want: the new 640d with xDrive. It’s got the sort of fuel economy of a 1-Series, AWD to deal with the snow and slippery roads and nobody will ever know about the compromise.
The new 640d xDrive Coupe and Convertible that will debut at the Geneva Motor Show is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel engine with 308 hp and 630Nm (465 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, and mated as standard to their eight-speed Sports automatic transmission.
There’s no reason to listen to the diesel engine in a convertible, so you want the coupe that will do 100km/h (62mph) in 5.2 seconds.
Right, now the party trick: BMW says it will go through 5.7 liters of diesel per 100 km, equivalent to somewhere in the region of 150 g/km of CO2. Why would you need another car?
