Following an investigation done by the Chinese authorities, various European and American manufacturers had to take certain measures to make sure they aren’t banned from the market. Apparently, their prices were too high. Who would’ve thought?
Now, after the authorities published their findings, BMW lowered its prices for spare parts in China. More than 2,000 parts including even batteries will have reduced prices by up to and over 20 percent starting this month.
This would be the second such measure the Germans enforce in the communist country, after they had already reduced prices on more than 3,300 components earlier this year. Most of the prices were cut, on average, by 15 percent but in some cases the discount even went up to half the original price.
That’s not all though. BMW is also cutting prices on some of its cars but not by too much. The biggest cut in China was on the 6 Series that saw a price reduction of 6.6 percent.
The Bavarians are not the only ones affected by the Chinese investigation. Audi and Chrysler also had to take similar actions due to the findings while Mercedes-Benz cut the prices on more than 10,000 spare parts by around 15 percent. However, they will be available for purchase in September. No discounts on cars were mentioned by the Swabian company.
The companies are basically forced to widen access to original components and sell them to independent shops throughout China to avoid being singled out by the anti-trust laws of the country.
“Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission’s Price Supervision and Anti-Monopoly Bureau expressed great concerns over existing problems in the auto industry and after-sales service sector,” BMW said in the statement. “BMW has been paying close attention and in response, is making the effort to bring down wholesale prices and promoting the flow of original parts.”
