In order to celebrate the recent start of construction on the new BMW plant in Araquari, Brazil, the Germans decided to launch a new model on the emerging market called 320i ActiveFlex.
What’s groundbreaking about this new 3er is that it uses the world’s first engine with a turbocharger and direct injection that can use two kinds of fuel: petrol and ethanol. The ActiveFlex was designed specifically for the Brazilian market, where ethanol is very popular.

Furthermore, this is the first premium car offered in Brazil that has such a concept behind it, giving the drivers full freedom of choice regarding the preferred fuel they want.

The best thing about it is that there is no performance backdrop when using ethanol and the ‘sheer driving experience’ is unchanged. At the launch, Ludwig Willisch, Head of Region Americas, BMW Group said:
“With the construction of our plant in Araquari, we are strengthening our commitment to Brazil and adding a further milestone in the BMW Group’s long-term growth strategy. Brazil has one of the world’s fastest growing major economies and is a market with tremendous potential for the future.”
