In a recent interview for Bloomberg, Mexico's Economy Minister, Ildefonso Guajardo claimed that both BMW and Hyundai had talks with the Mexican government about opening production facilities in the Central American country.
This comes as no surprise, since rumors about a BMW plant in Mexico have been going around for quite a while. However, up until now, no official from the latin country made any comment.
This would be the 3rd BMW plant to be opened in the Americas, after the one in Brazil and the one in Spartanburg, USA. However, no BMW official could be contacted in order to provide a clear answer in this regard but Ildefonso seemed pretty convinced.
"With both of them, there have been conversations with us for future plants. I cannot talk for them, but I think that starting 2014 we’ll have new announcements. At least for one,” the Minister said.
