If you're among the 202 or so folks who are expecting delivery of a rear-wheel-drive BMW of the sportier variety any day now, you might want to give your dealership a call and inquire about your precious car's delivery situation.
Actually, strike that, because its seems that the situation is a bit more convoluted than what a regular Delivery Stop usually means.

As it happens, some BMW dealerships have recently received a scary-sounding Delivery Stop on certain M2s, M3s, M4s Coupe and Convertible, M5 and regular 5 Series, M6 and 6 Series in all its shapes and sizes (Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible).

According to service information obtained by the peeps at BimmerPost, approximately 202 vehicles belonging to the series mentioned above are affected, and will require a replacement of the rear differential for a yet unknown reason.

Apparently, all the affected vehicles were built between May 12, 2016, and July 4, 2016, but nobody's sure yet if there are other cars involved, especially since the VIN numbers that have transpired until now aren't sequential.

The weird thing is that according to the same BMW dealerships that got the memo, there is no repair available at this time, meaning that the affected models are currently stuck. Some are still at the factory, others are in transit while a few have already arrived at the BMW centers in charge of final delivery. In a nutshell, at least 200 of the sportiest BMWs are in limbo, awaiting either final delivery or to have their rear differentials replaced.

The worst part is that some U.S. customers had opted for the so-called European Delivery on their M cars, and had already booked hotels and plane tickets to go and have a nice European vacation after getting the keys to their brand new Bimmer.

You can find a preliminary list of VIN of the affected vehicles in the PDF we have attached bellow, but take it with a grain of salt, since it's quite probable that the list isn't complete. We'll keep you posted if the situation develops.
