Looking over the BMWUSA.com website today I couldn’t help but be surprised by the sudden appearance of the new BMW i8 on the main page, therefore announcing the inevitable arrival of the sportscar in the US.
Calling the i8 a simple ‘sportscar’ is definitely not enough. This is the future of sporty mobility, the way we’ll be able to get our daily dosage of adrenaline from our car without destroying the planet.

The concept isn’t new but it’s gaining attention everywhere around the world these days with top manufacturers adopting the same ideas and turning them into mind blowing cars. Names include the Porsche 918 Spyder, the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, all of them using hybrid drivetrains.

However, they are up there in the hypercar league that also has hypercar prices. The cheapest of the bunch is the Porsche that starts at around $850,000. Compared to that, the i8 is pennies.

And even so, the BMW manages to post incredible numbers. 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, mpg rating of 94 and a lot more electric mobility than any of the aforementioned cars. All at a starting price of $135,700 before any kind of federal tax deduction. Does it sound like a bargain now? In case you need any more convincing, check out the dedicated section on the BMW USA website.
