BMW i8 Chassis in Detail

 BMW is continuing its series of informative videos about the i8, this time focusing on the chassis of the upcoming hybrid sportscar and how it’s revolutionizing the way we move and drive.

In the case of the i3 and i8, the cars are basically made up of two separate bodies called modules. The one that encases the drivetrain is called the drive module. It includes the electric motor and the internal combustion engine alongside the battery for the electric unit, all on a chassis of aluminum.

On the other hand, you have the life module that is basically the cabin with all of its components. This one is made of CFRP and it’s extremely rigid to keep the occupants of the cabin safe in case of an accident.

Both of them, combined, make up what BMW is calling LifeDrive, a new concept towards sustainable mobility and sheer driving experience. More details in the video below.
