BMW has announced excellent sales figures in the US, in November, a month when they recorded a 45% rise, compared to the same numbers of last year. This means that they sold a total of 31,213 units last month, with the bulk of the growth coming courtesy of the 5-Series executive sedan, which had a 64% gain.
In the same month, Mercedes-Benz only increased its sales by 13%, selling a total of 30,315 units, again helped by the an executive sedan, their E-Class, the sales of which rose by 59% - 8,126 units sold in total. Following these results, some simple calculations indicate that Mercedes’ lead over BMW has narrowed considerably since the end of October, when they had a 2,748 vehicle lead - now it has shrunk to just 1,849 units between them.

Mercedes’ January to November sales are, however, still up, compared to the same period of 2011, by 12%, having sold 245,910 cars in total, while BMW recorded a 10% increase, having sold 244, 061 units. Lexus is also not that far behind, with 213,559 units sold through November - a 23% increase over last year’s figures.
