This is the first time that next year’s E63 AMG super sports sedan has been spotted. The car was taken out by Mercedes engineers to get a fell for the Nurburgring track. The fact that it’s being track tested doesn’t necessarily mean AMG has a new powertrain in store for us, since the ‘Ring is used often used for reliability testing. One kilometer there is as grueling as 10 in the real world.
However, it’s possible that because the new BMW M5 makes 560 horsepower, Mercedes will take the 5.5-liter twin-turbo in the E63 from the current base output to the higher one offered in the 2013 SL63 AMG for example.
The new E63 AMG will theoretically be a facelift, but we can’t simply brush it away as having a new face. When Mercedes evolved the current C-Class (last year), they changed or revised 2,000 components on the car. The same sort of changes will apply to the E-Class.
We already know that behind that camouflage, the E-Class will have new headlights, ones which we’ve already shown you a couple of days ago. However, we don’t know what sort of look the front bumper will have, though it’s likely to be a softer one.
