BMW comes with up an emotional advert that takes a father and a son on a journey through the past and present on board the BMW i4 electric sedan.
The 90-second video has just celebrated its premiere on social media channels under the "Freude forever" banner. The video proves that driving pleasure has no age. It starts with a grey-haired 85-year old father, Robert, and a son, Cristopher, in the cold, grey waiting room, in the sound of an old-school clock ticking, before the father has to hand over his driver's license.

There is no age cutoff preventing an older adult from driving in the United States. But legislation is different over in some European states.

"It's just a piece of plastic," Cristopher says, trying to encourage his father. But Robert associates that "piece of plastic" with so much joy felt while driving over the years.

As the two of them drive him in the son's BMW i4, flashbacks strike, and the two of them remember the moment the son got his driver's license as well as the joy of the moment, together with other happy moments that happened in the father's BMW over all those years.

Once they leave the public road behind, the son asks the father if he wants to drive. The place is the exact location where Robert patiently taught his son how to drive almost 40 decades before. Now, the roles are reversed and it is the son who invites the other to take the wheel of his BMW.

All those years before, Cristopher learned how to drive in his father's BMW 3 Series. It is enough for the two of them to remember the special moments spent in the old Bimmer like the son playing in the passenger seat or falling asleep during night-time trips, family holidays, thousands of miles of road trips, collecting the teenager Cristoper from parties or driving him to his first date.

Once the last drive is over, Robert is finally ready to give up the wheel and permanently move into the passenger's seat after unlocking the avalanche of memories.

The one-minute-and-a-half clip was created by Jung von Matt for THE GAME and was produced in collaboration with the Marketing division of BMW. The video will be shown on all BMW’s social media channels: YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.

A 30-second short version of the film and a 15-second teaser will also be on social media to showcase that passion for driving has no age, turning the cars into companions that offer the space for emotions.

The modern-day BMW used in the video is an i4 eDrive35, powered by a rear-mounted electric motor in a rear-wheel drive setup. The unit generates 335 horsepower (340 PS) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque. A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 70.2 kWh provides the car with an EPA-rated combined range of 256 miles (412 kilometers). In the US, the i4 starts at $52,200.
