We’re definitely coming close to the official unveiling of the new BMW M2 and if the teasers the Germans are releasing aren’t enough for you guys to believe us, here’s something else.
Prototypes on the Nurburgring are now sporting everything the production car will have on. We’re talking every single bespoke part, from the suspension setup to the paint and eventually to the exhaust. This will surely be an essential element in the success or failure of the car.

Remember that the first time the M3 and M4 came out with their 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engines they were criticized for their perceived lack of character and disappointing tone. Well, we’re hoping that the M2 won’t go through the same process when it comes out.

The signs are definitely good, as this video of a prototype undergoing tests shows us a taste of how the new M car will actually sound like. Don’t know about you but this footage definitely caught my attention.

So what is the source of all this? Well, under the bonnet we’ll find an upgraded version of the standard N55 engine that will be making something really close to 360 HP and up to 500 Nm (469 lb-ft) of torque. As a matter of fact, chances are we’re going to see the mill making around 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque and go up to the maximum value thanks to an overboost function. Nothing is sure at this point, it’s all speculation.

In terms of cog swapping matters, the choice will come down to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The latter seems to be the one fitted on this particular tester judging by how fast the shifts are happening.

No matter what you’d go for, though, the car is likely to be revealed on October 14, which means we have less than a week left to wait.
