Ever since BMW announced the release of specially tuned versions of its cars, created to be as fuel efficient as possible, everybody jumped on the EfficientDynamics wagon and wondered if it's worth getting one.
The guys from Auto Motor und Sport even took the latest version out for a test to see if it lives up to the hype. They chose the 320i EDE version and went for it, the AMS way.

The car they had comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 170 HP with 200 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque at its disposal. With this engine, the full-size F30 registered a maximum fuel consumption of 6.5 l/100 km (36 mpg) and a minimum of 4.8 l/100km (49 mpg).

Those numbers are well within the official combined number of 5.3 l/100 km (44.3 mpg) and the car was pushed hard into the corners. The 1.6-liter engine handles the car really well and will also provide you with the trademark BMW sheer driving experience.

Looking over the CO2 emission levels, the EfficientDynamics Edition will stop at 124 g/km which is 23 grams less than its standard brother, without all the improvements. Furthermore, the car weighs only 1,457 kg (3212 lb) and will offer you and your family plenty of space.

Even though, at high speeds on the highway, the 320i EDE drank more than its diesel brother, it's still worth a look, considering its a fun car, without the pesky diesel sound.
