Set to be introduced in 2014, the BMW i8 hybrid sportscar won’t get an M version, although the company has considered dropping the hybrid powertrain for a V8 or V10-powered iteration.
This piece of information came via CAR Magazine, who claims that the i8 M is “no longer part of the program” and we’ll only get to see the hybrid version. No reason for BMW enthusiasts to get upset though, as the i8 is rumored to boast about 400 HP at 1,450 kg (3,196 lb).
As we already mentioned, the 2+2 gull-winged i8 will show up with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, while details about the electric motor have yet to be revealed. Estimated 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time is rated at 4.9 seconds and the top speed mark should to be achieved at 156 mph (251 km/h).
The German automaker reportedly hopes to sell about 10,000 i8 hybrids per year, with each vehicle to have a price tag of €150,000 ($200,000).
