Back in the days of when computers still warn on Windows 2000, a BMW 3 Series was all the average weekend drifter needed to get his kicks. But the 3er has grown over the years, go coming ever more refined and expensive, which is forcing more and more people into the 1 Series.
The Bangle era car was actually kind of nice if you compare it with old fish eyes here. It also gave us one amazing piece of compact machinery, the 1-Series M Coupe.

It's successor is getting ready for launch at the Nurburgring, and we have the latest spy shots to see if it can actually live up to our expectations. First off, it's not a 1 Series any more. BMW marketing men decided to make this coupe into a 2 Series.

This means fresh styling from the F20 and a longer wheelbase, but the same new architecture means it will be lighter and faster than the E82.

This is the M235i, which is going to be mechanically similar to its brother the M135i. That means an N55 six-cylinder TwinPower engine and plenty of bang for the buck performance. But it's not the front end that tells us the most when it comes to this prototype.

Looking at the back, we noticed a completely new diffuser, unlike anything BMW put on an M car or M Sport package. It's very wide, extending all the way to the edge of the lower bumper. The corners of the taillights also give an impression of a wider body, since the corners of the rear wings are protruding.

This 320 horsepower coupe will headline the new three-door 2 Series range of models in a big way. It's a modern-day equivalent of that of the E46, and we're unable to contain our excitement.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
