BMW's AssistTM eCall system with enhanced Automatic Collision Notification and Teleservice was awarded the 2013 Telematics Update Award in Detroit for "Best Safety & Security Solution" in a ceremony that took place today.
Almost all upcoming models in the BMW line-up will be fitted with these systems starting with 2014 and will benefit from a 10-year service period. This system was available in the US for almost 16 years now but not on every model.

All these fancy names actually just stand for enhanced assistance in case of an emergency. For example, on the basis of all accident-related data, the call center decides which and how many emergency services are required at the accident site (e.g. doctor, paramedic, fire department, helicopter).

“We felt strongly that making both BMW Assist and Teleservice standard for the 2014 model year was important for our customers in terms of safety and security, particularly in light of our eCall service with its enhanced Automatic Collision Notification,” said Doug Claus, Department Manager – Product Requirements and Development for BMW of North America.
