With so much talk about the new BMW M3 and its inline 6-cylinder engine it’s hard not to wonder how the new car will sound like. We got a few glimpses here and there but nothing official or even filmed with a good camera.
Thinking about how good the S65 V8 engine sounds in the E92 M3, it’s hard to say goodbye. Add an Akrapovic exhaust to the mix and things get really crazy, like in this video.
Being derived directly from the S85 V10 of the E60 M5 (that used F1 technology) it’s easy to see why this V8 sounds so good. It also follows the perfect recipe BMW developed for displacement and cylinders that seems to be guiding all their newest engines these days (500cc per cylinder).
Going back to Akrapovic, they must’ve proved their worth over and over again as BMW and Alpina both are now using their products in different configurations, the former in its M Performance accessories range and the latter in every model they build.
This M3 is a clear example of why the two companies made that decision. Headphones are strongly recommended.
