The E39 incarnation of the BMW 5 Series still receives plenty of admiration today. In fact, the senior 5er is respected enough for this to shine when lapping the Nurburgring. However, not all Ring stints are joyful and the one we're here to showcase today sees an E39 meeting the guardrail.
We'll kick things off by mentioning you have to be focused on the first moments of the footage depicting the crash. While it might look like the sedan started sliding out of nowhere, a closer inspection leads us to believe that the driver was overcorrecting a slide at the time.

The posterior of the Bimmer went out violently and it didn't take long before the oversteering moment sent the car flying into the metallic protection element on the side of the track.

And while the impact may have not been extreme, the damage extends over a large section of the car. Speaking of which, while the machine might pack multiple M elements, you should keep in mind that we're not actually dealing with an M5.

Fortunately, no other vehicle was involved in the accident that trashed this Bavarian sedan.

While we're talking Nurburgring accidents, we'll remind you that we recently brought you two of the most extreme tales of the kind.

One of these involved a 991 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, with the machine crashing during a VLN endurance race. And we have to mention that the Neunelfer flipped at least ten times before coming to a halt. Fortunately, the driver walked away unharmed, as the man himself explained after the extreme moment.

As for the second, this is actually a crash save, one that saw a Daihatsu Cuore pulling a... skateboard move, albeit not without getting some damage in the process. Oh well, at least the driver and the passengers were unhurt.
