BMW launched a full, proper facelift for the 3 Series earlier this year that will go in production this summer. However, in their entire press release (over 50 pages) they somehow ‘forgot’ to say a word about the Gran Turismo guise.
The entire release if referring only to the 3 Series Sedan and Touring while the Gran Turismo got completely left out. That led us to believe that it will either go out of production or that it will simply get its facelift later on.

As it turns out, the Germans are rolling out two new engines for the GT. Joining the line-up starting this summer will be the new 318d and 320d. They will be powered by the same 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel that is tuned to make two different amounts of power.

Needless to say that they are actually the same as on the rest of the cars in the current line-up with 18d and 20d lettering on the boot. The 318d uses the 150 HP version of the 2-liter mill making 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque at the same time.

According to BMW, the car will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.3 seconds with the manual gearbox and 9.2 seconds with the automatic. Yes, it’s not a racer. But is it fuel efficient? Well, yes.

The figures stand at 4.5 l/100 km (52.2 mpg) combined for the manual and 4.3 l/100 km (54 mpg) for the automatic. Of course, these are just for the European Testing cycle, the EPA’s findings being most likely closer to reality.

For the 320d things look better. The sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) is done in 7.8 and 7.7 seconds respectively while the fuel consumption is rated at 4.6 l/100 km (51.1 mpg) for the manual and 4.3 l/100 km (54.7 mpg) for the automatic.

All cars get a lot of EfficientDynamics parts in order to be able to do so. Brake Energy Regeneration with recuperation display, Automatic Start/Stop function, gear shift indicator, ECO PRO mode with coasting function (automatic), map-regulated oil pump, detachable AC compressor, differential with optimized-warm-up behavior, tires with reduced rolling resistance, all of them are included here.

As far as safety features go, as this car is intended for families, all models get driver and front-seat passenger airbags, driver and front-seat passenger side airbags, front and rear head airbags, three-point automatic seatbelts for all seats, seatbelt tensioners and seatbelt force limiters in front seats, crash sensors and tyre pressure indicator.

The new versions will enter production this summer and are EU6 compatible.
