At first sight, you might think that the 3 Series Gran Turismo is a bit overreaching, a desperate attempt from BMW to reach into new niches and grab a couple more customers, looking for a quick profit. Ask the owners and you might find a completely different opinion.
Mat Watson from Auto Express had the chance to get a long-term BMW 328i GT and he absolutely loves it. Now, after 6 months of driving the new ‘hatch’ as people call it, he’s back to tell us about his experience living with a Gran Turismo.

Analyzing its design will reveal that most of the changes happened at the back where the car gained a hunch and a bigger boot that took some of the style and elegance of the sedan away and replaced them with practicality and functionality.

That’s where the Gran Turismo exceeds as well. You can use it for almost anything, from carrying bikes around to moving to a new home, you can do a lot of things with the 1,600 liters of space (with the seats down).

His car had beige leather and that started to be a problem a couple of months in, when it started turning blue due to the jeans he always wears. However, a quick trip to the car wash solved his problem. The same couldn’t be said about the floor mats though. That’s really something you might want to overlook when buying not just this car but any car.

You can get the official mpg ratings but you’ll have to try really hard to do so while comfort is never a problem as the Gran Turismo was designed to be comfortable, especially with the adaptive suspension. For more tips check out his thoughts in the video below.
