Bill Ford Confident Small Cars Will Deal with Skyrocketing Gas Prices

Gasoline prices have become a major concern for all of us and those living in the United States have all reasons to look into smaller car as oil prices are already over the $100 per barrel milestone for the first time in two years.

But chairman Bill Ford said that small cars manufactured by the Detroit-based manufacturer are ready to cope with the skyrocketing gas prices, pointing that most models in Ford's portfolio have been specifically optimized to reach record fuel efficiency figures.

"You will see a shift, I believe, to smaller cars, smaller SUVs,"
Bill Ford was quoted as saying by USA Today. "We are very prepared. I love our portfolio because it plays right into our strategy, which is to be the fuel economy leader."

And what's even more important is that Ford won't rely on discounts or other types of bonuses, mostly because production is already in line with demand. In this context, Ford has no reason to attempt to boost sales aggressively, trying to rely more on the features offered by small and efficient products.

"If you look back at what used to be considered Green vehicles, it really meant very small vehicles that were no fun to drive and that were stripped of all content ... you were lucky if you got an FM radio," Ford added.

This isn't the first time when Detroit automakers emphasize the fuel efficiency boasted by their products, as Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Volt or Fiat 500, each belonging to one of the Detroit 3, are already on sale in the United States.
