Single-seater open wheelers, built in the garage, get your act together and prepare for the biggest ever Formula Student competition to date, which will take place this summer on the world famous Silverstone race track.
A mix of engineering competition with real racing pilots incubator, the Formula Student competition has drawn a huge amount of people to it this year. According to The Telegraph, no less than 131 teams have signed up for the show of might and awe which will take place on July 14-17, one week after the British Grand Prix. Of them, say the organizers, about 110 will be left after passing through the scrutiny of the rules and regulations.
This year's event has drawn the attention of wannabe engineers and racers from across the world, with the place of origin of the teams ranging from the UK to Palestine and Nigeria. The single condition for the teams to be accepted in the first stage, that is for them to be allowed to enlist, was that they create a single-seater vehicle that, in the next phase, would have to meet criteria in technical, design, speed, endurance and environmental areas.
For each of the categories, points are awarded, but beyond that, the bigger boys in the racing industry are hoping that the technologies on display at Silverstone this July might one day become part of Formula 1. And to emphasize that, the organizers will adorn the event with one marking F1 figure, whose name will be announced at a later date.
