A few weeks ago, Auto Express reported that Bentley was planning a sportier version of its Mulsanne after they had spoken to Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer, and now it sounds like sources within the bespoke automaker have confirmed this. Additionally, the higher-output car will be called the Bentley Mulsanne Speed, which is still expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
The first order of business will be cranking up the output of the 6.75-liter twin-turbo V-8 from the current 505 bhp to 550 bhp. Although this is a bit lower than what the 626 bhp this engine delivers in the Continental GT Speed, the super luxury sedan should be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds on its way to a top speed that closes in on the 200-mph mark.

Accompanying this increased power, Bentley will also give its big sedan a sportier driving dynamic through revised tuning to the steering and suspension, and it is very likely that the Mulsanne Speed would get some distinguishing styling elements. This would almost certainly include a more aggressive front fascia, bigger wheels (possibly exposing brightly painted calipers

As Auto Express points out, Bentley is finding that customers are quickly snatching up performance versions of its cars. In the U.K., Continental buyers are opting for the V8 S or GT Speed rather than the lower-priced, lower-output model. Globally, Bentley sales are up $23 year to date with the Americas being the automaker’s top market.

There’s only a few more months to go until we see whether or not the Bentley Mulsanne Speed will debut in Paris, but regardless of whenever it goes go on sale, the report estiamtes a starting price of £250,000, or close to $427,000 USD.
