Baby Maserati Quattroporte May Come in 2011

Earlier this year, we reported that Maserati is planning to build a sedan that would be slotted under the Quattroporte model. Back then, it was suggested that the new vehicle is still far from the production form, as it wasn’t expected to arrive until 2014.

However, it seems that the Italian automotive producer has put the development pedal to the metal and the new sedan will arrive in the fall of next year. The information was revealed to Inside Line by company sources.

The aforementioned source adds that the sedan’s design will be signed by the people working at the Fiat Centro Stile, with the team led by Lorenzo Ramaciotti. This could mean that the upcoming vehicle will offer a totally new design language for Maserati, as the current Quattroporte was created by Pininfarina.

The introduction of the vehicle would allow the company to strengthen its position on the market. As the model will be placed under the Quattroporte, it will come with a price that is expected to play in the $70,000 league. This will allow it to register more-than-niche sales.

The future Maserati saloon will compete against vehicles like the Porsche Panamera or the BMW 5 Series. The vehicle might come in two versions. The entry-level one should be aimed at the middle-of-the pack incarnations of the aforementioned competitors, while the top one would take on heroes such as the M5 and the Panamera Turbo, offering an ultra-high level of performance.

It would make sense for Maserati to accelerate the development of its smaller saloon, as the segment in which this is scheduled to play is becoming more and more important.
