Audi Turns to Origami With A7 Papercraft

If you are in the market to buy a paper plane, boat or even a swan, then we can definitely hook you up in no time. But Audi of America wanted something a bit more intricate - an A7 Sportback. So we are glad they called on an expert like Taras Lesko, who seems to have found something of a magic formula.

The guy knows what he is doing, as he has built huge action figures, a Gundam robot, a replica oh what looks like his head and an Audi R8 for Forza Motorsport 3, so he is just the man for the job.

The project all started with 285 clean sheets of paper. Using photos and drawings plus a bit of computer skills, he designed 750 model pieces out of card stock, which he then printed, folded and glued together. A laser printer was involved, as were two desktop cutting plotters, glue and an X-ACTO knife.

What’s amazing is that the video we are showing you below is only 3 minutes long, but the actual process took more than 245 hours later. It all start out with the wheels, and you can see all the painstaking efforts that went into all those spokes. We bet he wished that Audi had chosen a less intricate design than that.

Then comes the body, interior, seats, dash, a central column, steering wheel, instrument cluster and an appropriately sized... Gundam RX-78 robot used as a driver stand-in.

We love the tricky post-editing that went into compressing 245 hours of work into just a couple of minutes, so enjoy and be inspired.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
