Audi Surges to Record Profit in H1 2010

German manufacturer Audi announced today its financial results for the first half of the year, presenting numbers most didn't believe will see anytime soon in the automotive industry. The carmaker achieved a revenue of EUR17.6 billion, a healthy 21 percent increase over the numbers achieved last year.

The manufacturer's operating profit for the period, with the 61.6 percent increase making the first half on 2010 a record, with an EUR1.3 billion operating profit.

“The record profit reflects just how successful our strategy of sustained, profitable growth is,”
Axel Strotbek, Audi member of the board for Finance and Organization said in a statement.

“Another example is our operating return for the past few years. Despite the crisis, it has averaged a good seven percent.”

The great numbers come after a successful half year in terms of sales for Audi. The carmaker managed to sell 554,939 vehicles for the first six months, this too a record number for the period. This made Audi think it just may achieve the 1 million+ sales target set for 2010. If so, it would be the second time Audi achieves such a feat (the first time it passed 1 million units was in 2008).

And it doesn't stop here. The German manufacturer outlined plans to bring the number of models in its portfolio to over 40 by 2015.

We want to increase deliveries to customers to over 1,080,000 vehicles this year,” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board for Marketing and Sales added.“We are once again aiming for an outstanding result for 2010, with our operating return on sales reaching the same level as the first half-year.”
