The increasing demand for Audi vehicles in the US made for the 2 millionth German-made vehicle to be sold in June in the US. The special-for-Audi vehicle was an A3 TDI, sold to a first timer when it comes to Audi vehicles.
It took Audi 40 years to reach this milestone, but as the rate of sales accelerated in the past few years, the carmaker is confident future records will be broken a bit faster. To mark the milestone, Audi will set up several special events, most of them taking place in the social media environment.
“The story of Audi in the U.S. is really a story written by the hundreds of thousands of people who’ve invited our brand into their lives,” Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America president said in a statement. “We’re grateful for those opportunities.”
So far, 2010 has proved to be quite the year for the German manufacturer. In early July, Audi announced it has sold more than 100,000 cars within a half-year period in China and Hong Kong for the first time ever. This week, the 10,000th TT 2.0 TDI rolled off the assembly lines.
The great sales numbers of the year has made Audi day-dream to the 1 million+ sales target set for 2010. Audi sold in the first half of the year 554,950 vehicles, topping the results of last year by 19.1 percent.
The range of new vehicles to be launched in the near future, including the new A7, as well as the newly launched models like A8, may just be the break the carmaker needs to reach its goal.
