Understeer, an ugly body, a ridiculous price and semi-impractical nature – these are all known flaws of the Audi RS3, and yet it’s a compact rocket, so we’re drawn to it, ready to lavish it with attention and love. But just like the Focus RS, it looks like the 2.5-liter turbo engine no longer has a place in this automotive world, and development of the next RS3 is being pushed back.
Instead, Audi will focus on the very first S3 sedan, which will go on sale in the US market next year, according to AutoCar. Just like the hatchback, it will be powered by a 300 PS (296 hp) 2-liter TFSI turbo engine.

When it does launch, it will face stiff competition from the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG, also a sedan, also with a 2-liter turbo and four-wheel drive. Audi’s answer will be to undercut the Merc in the price battle.

The RS3 could be the answer when it comes to the power war, but the car isn’t a top priority for them right now. Previous reports said it would arrive in about a year with almost 400 horsepower, but it might be too early to tell, since it might not even come with a 2.5-liter engine any more.
