After initial reports that production was ending last year due to popular demand, Audi continued building the great R8 V10-powered supercar for a little while longer. However, the saga came to an end late this month.
Unfortunately for all the Ingolstadt fans out there, Audi has just built the last R8 supercar, and everyone is wondering what will happen with the final example – it seems that the German automaker has decided to refrain from sending the last V10-powered unit to a customer. This is the end of an era, indeed.

In case you lived under a Mars rock for a while and haven't seen the first or second-generation Audi R8 in action, here's a snippet of its prowess as it races 'over the hills and far away' in America, proving that it's not only nimble around the corners but also a true powerhouse when it comes to local quarter-mile dragstrip brawls.

In fact, some of the coolest and feistiest Audi R8s in North America converged in Ennis, Texas – and good folks over at the racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube were on point during TX2K's 2024 edition, which took place March 12-17 in Texas.

The venue was the historic Texas Motorplex, and the event is one of the greatest for fans of straight-line acceleration. In fact, the videographer has been constantly churning out one great feature after another based on the action near downtown Dallas (40 miles south). They started with crashes, continued with records, went through 'sleepers,' and included some exotics, of course.

A good portion of their coverage was also dedicated to 'monsters' though – trailered sports and supercars that have in excess of 2,000 horsepower. With those, there are two distinct possibilities – either they perform flawlessly and destroy the competition with seven and six-second passes, or something goes (horribly) wrong, and the event is pretty much over.

Here, let us put all that into the proper perspective with this latest feature focused on the now-defunct but still glorious Audi R8. The first skirmish from TX2K24 sees a gray with chrome wheels example fight off a blue with black wheels unit, and these parachute-sporting supercars showed that saying 'it's close but not close enough' never gets old, hence the 7.93s versus 7.95 victory of the gray one.

The second brawl is between a green Audi R8 in the right lane and a Lamborghini Huracan sibling tucked in the left lane – this fraternal race saw the Lambo not feeling too blue about itself and the 8.02s to 7.8s victory because TX2K doesn't seem to take into account the lower ET of the Audi because the R8 didn't cross the finish line first.

Anyway, next up, it's time for a rematch sporting a white Audi R8 and a white Lambo Huracan – this time around, the race wasn't something to write home about because the Italian stallion called in sick and pulled over to the right. Moving on, another white R8 (a different one; check the white versus black rims) faced off with yet another eternal monster – the R35 Nissan GT-R Godzilla. Well, the latter might have seen the latest MonsterVerse flick and said to itself that unlike in 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,' the great kaiju don't run!

So, it strolled down its lane while the Audi R8 was minding its 8.5s business. Next up, a red Audi R8 titled 'Donald Trump' expressed its political views and was left to run solo – the pass was good but not all that great (8.41s). The second-to-final skirmish was a colorful one – the green Audi R8 faced off with a shiny pink R35 Nissan GT-R, and this encounter was one for the ages as everyone performed flawlessly, hence the incredible 7.64s versus 8.06s comeback and victory snatched by the green monster.

Last but not least, the white Audi R8 with white rims around the wheels faced off with 'Donald Trump,' but this was no candidate to TX2K and Texas Motorplex glory because the former obliterated the politically (in)correct Audi R8 with an 8.45 versus 9.25s victory. So, do you think that Ingolstadt-based supercars are cool or not (when modified)?
