Which brand is the one helping the most with the goal set by Volkswagen (overtaking Toyota as the number one manufacturer in the world by 2018, that is)? Audi, of course, perhaps the crown jewel in the VW portfolio.
Second only to Volkswagen cars in terms of volume, the four-ringed brand is doing its best not to disappoint the mother company. The carmaker already posted strong sales results this year, but today announced it has managed to break the sales record in the US, planning to exceed for the first time in its history the 100,000 vehicles sold mark.
The carmaker was quick to announce it already broke the sales record in the US, after selling the 93,507th vehicle in the country on Monday. That's only one unit up from the sales record set in 2007.
“This is truly an historic moment for Audi as the brand continues on its established course to become the most successful premium brand in the U.S. and globally,” said Johan de Nysschen, president, Audi of America.
“Setting a new sales record reflects on the exceptional work done by the Audi team and our dealer partners. But credit for this achievement also belongs to the American premium car consumer who is choosing the advantages of Audi engineering innovations.”
With the US market on track to engulf in excess of 100,000 Audis in one year, the States will become the fourth region in the world to pass into the six-digit world after China, Germany and the United Kingdom.
“We are on target to surpass the 100,000 mark,” added Audi of America COO Mark Del Rosso . “And, with an energized dealer body and exciting new products still to come, we believe that topping the new record is our next objective.”
